The Diabetic Foot Clinic in Shenbagam Hospital is spearheaded by Dr MACS.R Surendran. Podiatry is a branch of medicine devoted to the study, diagnosis, and medical and surgical treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower extremity. Podiatrists are health care professionals who have been trained to prevent, diagnose, treat and rehabilitate abnormal conditions of the feet and lower limbs. They also prevent and correct deformity, keep people mobile and active, relieve pain and treat infections. Podiatrists can also supply orthotics, which are tailor-made insoles, padding and arch supports to relieve arch or heel pain. You put the orthotic device into your shoe to re-align your foot, take pressure off vulnerable areas of your foot, or simply to make your shoes more comfortable.

If you suffer from foot pain caused by diabetes, both primary care physicians and specialized podiatrists can help you manage your diabetes and prevent foot pain from arising or escalating.

They may prescribe medications and encourage a healthy diet and exercise, as well as examining your feet regularly to monitor progress. The doctor uses specialized tools to check the sensitivity in your feet and also conduct imaging tests to see the condition of your foot bones. Foot exams help detect foot problems early on, when they are easier to treat.

Don’t hesitate to consult with our Doctor if you notice anything unusual, such as a sore or other injury that won’t heal or that looks infected.
